Fed shutters bond-buying program

The US central bank launched a series of monetary stimulus actions after the crisis in order to boost recovery, swelling its balance sheet to an unprecedented size of $4 trillion.

As the economic picture started to change, the Fed started tapering, reducing its $85 billion monthly injections to $15 billion. Currently the country appears to have grown at a pace near 3% or more in the third quarter.
