NEW YORK | In the idyllic setting of the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland 63 miles from the White House, world leaders gathered on Friday for the G8 summit. This time, the agenda has real economic substance. Will the intimacy of the lodges in the wilderness help to solve the eurodrama?

The pressure is expected to be high on Mrs Merkel. She is the only one representing the “austerians” versus the “pro-growth” (Obama, Monti, Hollande).

Technically there will not be any key paneuropean decision made in this meeting, since it is not the proper forum. However, in Camp David some solutions could be tackled: eurobonds, a quantitative easing for Europe or a Marshall Plan through the EIB.

Media are flaring up the fire. The New York Times published its anti-Merkel op-ed, urging her to stop trying to solve different problems with the same political strategy.
